Sunny Cove garbage collectors show their neat and artistic side

They make it up as they go, but the garbage crew around Sunny Cove is in a league of its own.

Jim McLean is 72-years-old and retired  four-years ago, but he said in all his years, he has never seen garbage collectors who obviously love their jobs as much as the crew who service Sunny Cove do.

The team visits at 5am, long before anyone is awake to hear them, and, much to the resident’s delight, before they leave they tend to construct “stuff” from empty recycling bins.

Jim doesn’t know how it started but laughingly agreed it could best be described as a “spontaneous outbreak of artistic talent.”

“I think these guys are  engineers or something, by the sorts of displays they come up with,” he said

“We call them “garbologists”, and after what they’ve been doing out here, we all think they should get some sort of recognition for all their hard work.”
