A retirement village that opened last week has already attracted interest from Armidale locals, and former residents returning home.
Oak Tree Retirement Village opened its new facility at 217 Taylor Street on Saturday, and already deposits have been put on two of the 44 villas.
“We've had a lot of interest from locals, and people coming back to town who've moved away and wanted to come back to Armidale,” New England area manager Kate Pigram said.
“People like to live where they've grown up, and often lived for a long time.”
Armidale Regional Council Mayor Cr Simon Murray officially opened the retirement village, cutting a red ribbon.
“Any retirement village that is developed is good for the community,” Cr Murray said. “It allows the people who come from Armidale or the surrounds to still live in the community where they've lived for years.”
The village offers maintenance-free living for people over 55, in stylish, modern surroundings.
It is the second Oak Tree facility in Armidale, joining the existing Martin Street village.
“This is a smaller, more boutique village,” Ms Pigram said, “but we're able to offer people in Armidale the whole range of facilities from a one-, two-, and a three-bedroom home, gated community, safety, security, companionship, and, best of all, no maintenance for people once they're in their retirement years.”
Prices start at $355,000 for a two-bedroom, one car garage house. A three-bedroom, double garage house can cost $445,000.
Each house offers step free living, spacious bathrooms with walk-in shower, and quality electrical appliances to reduce the burden of home maintenance. Large north-facing windows catch plenty of light, and ducted air conditioning ensures comfort all year round.
The retirement village also offers an open plan hall for functions and dining; a lounge and library; outdoor barbecue and entertainment areas; a hair dressing salon; a gym; a bowling green; and a village bus, for taking residents into town. The village is pet friendly.
Display homes are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm. For more information, contact Kate Pigram on 0407 333 453, or visit https://www.oaktreegroup.com.au/retirement-village/new-south-wales/armidale/taylor-street.
