Taking on Northern NSW top school teams in the Champion of Champions tournament on Monday, the Duval side finished as undefeated champions.
They finished the group stages with a comfortable advantage but the grand final against Hastings Secondary College went down to the wire. Hastings scored first and Duval didn’t get on the board until late in the game through Josh Dunbar.
The game went into golden goal extra time Duval managed to sneak past the Hastings keeper to claim the win and the trophy.
“They did really, really well,” coach Tom Model said.
“Their sportsmanship was exemplary and the style of futsal they played was to our strengths as far as lots of defensive effort to win the ball back and then even more work to keep the ball and create scoring opportunities.”
They step up a level again in November in Brisbane.
