More than 500 budding young rugby enthusiasts aged from under-6 through to under-12 from 11 clubs across the North West as well as Maitland, who brought up several teams, took to the Plain Street fields under sunny skies, for what was a big day with around 70 matches played, Tri Colours president Peter Toole said.
He said the committee wished to thank all those who volunteered their time to help make the carnival run smoothly, from running the barbecue and canteen, to the ground managers, coaches and referees, the businesses who loaned them vital equipment and the sponsors who provided raffle prizes.
“This combined effort by so many allows junior rugby at grassroots level to prosper and kids to simply get out there and enjoy themselves,” Toole said.
The players will do it all again on Sunday when Quirindi hosts their carnival.
