Twenty eight students living in the Armidale region were selected to be included in the show of 60-plus finalist works, and Armidale City Public School was named the most outstanding school for its exploration of media and different artistic processes.
Considering the competition received 528 artworks from 64 schools from across northern New South Wales, the Armidale cohort did very well.
Ethan Simpkins from Armidale City Public School kindergarten was given the Directors Choice award for his watercolour of a rabbit.
Crystal Dai from Presbyterian Ladies College was named the winner of the senior secondary section for her work ‘Krystal Zheng’ while Auekan Udompitisup from TAS was highly commended for her oil and pastel self portrait.
In the junior secondary section NEGS student Dimity Chalmers was highly commended for her etching and Narmi Collin-Widders from The Armidale Waldorf School was awarded runner-up for her self portrait.
Lars von Deurzen from NERAM art classes was highly commended in the primary section with his lino print of a musk lorikeet. The infants category was won by kindergarten student Mia Walker from Drummond Memorial Public School for her tissue paper self portrait and the runner-up was Sophie O’Connell from Martin’s Gully Primary for her water based texta work. Maya Kauffman from St Joseph’s Primary School in Uralla was highly commended for her oil pastel rendition of ‘mum’s creation’.
“Let’s Hang It! Is one of the most anticipated and lively events in NERAM’s annual calendar,” said Rachael Parsons, Art Museum Director.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to provide recognition and exposure for emerging talent, and it is always thrilling to see the Museum filled with young artists and their families. There is so much enthusiasm and energy.”
Now in its fourteenth year, UNESAP was developed through an on-going partnership between NERAM and the University of New England. The four winning artworks will become a part of the UNE art collection.
The UNESAP exhibition will be on display at NERAM until August 12.
