ONE person has died and another has been seriously injured in a crash south of Glen Innes on Saturday morning.
It’s understood the car left the New England Highway and crashed into a tree before 5am at Glencoe.
One person inside the car reportedly died at the scene.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter said it was tasked from Tamworth with a specialist medical team on board to treat another patient injured in the rollover.
“A single vehicle travelling south has left the road, gone through a ditch and hit a tree,” a spokesperson for the helicopter said.
“The driver of the car, a male in his thirties, has died at the scene.
“The other occupant, a male in his thirties, is being transported to the Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital suffering from multiple injuries.”
The helicopter said the patient was reportedly in a stable condition.
Emergency services closed the highway for the helicopter to land, and crews were still on scene at 8am.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
