THE Armidale School’s First XV is hoping that the long weekend break and recovery from injury of a quarter of the team will revive their hopes in the AAGPS Third Grade competition when they face St Ignatius College, Riverview, in Sydney this Saturday.

The top TAS team has been depleted in recent fixtures having had six players receive injuries in final pre-competition losses against Cranbrook School and St Gregory’s College that rendered them unavailable for the first round of the GPS competition a fortnight ago.
Captain Dan Lethbridge said the form which saw them defeated by The Scots College in the first round is hopefully behind them, and the team is confident for a turnaround.
“It’s been pretty deflating how many injuries our boys have had ahead of the start of the GPS season and it affected the confidence of the team, so it’s great to have four of the six back playing this week,” Lethbridge said.
“The whole team is feeling refreshed after a long weekend break, and training has felt really good this week which has been a confidence booster all round. Hopefully we’ll be able to put back in place the processes that we had when we played Sydney Grammar in a pre-season game four weeks ago,” he said.
In that match, at TAS, the hosts secured a 24-6 win over a strong Grammar outfit. TAS will play Grammar again as part of the competition fixtures in August, this time in Sydney.
TAS will field 10 teams from 13s to Opens against Riverview on Saturday, with the following weekend being the annual Sydney Boys’ High fixtures at TAS that will also include football, basketball, tennis and rifle shooting.
