The North West Equestrian Expo in Coonabarabran is the largest inter-school equestrian competition in Australia and attracts the best riders in the state to compete representing their schools.
The expo attracts an average of 600 riders and 700 horses each June to compete in various disciplines including showjumping, dressage, polocrosse, hacking and sporting.
The competitors take on other school teams over the five days and conclude in a closing ceremony and overall tally of points.
NEGS took out a series of individual and team trophies.
“We won the eventing championship and won the good trophies – the eventing, the dressage, the six bar and then the best presented school,” head coach Imti Anees said.
“We won it last year as well – the eventing and the dressage trophy.
“The dressage was really good, we had three girls in the elementary level and lots of girls in the novice and preliminary levels.
“We had wins at different events for the whole weekend.”
Anna Jarvis won the prestigious six bar event and Anees highlighted Lucy Ramsay as being one student who exceeded her own expectations.
“Lucy Ramsay in the showjumping was outstanding because it is an event horse and not the best of showjumpers and to have a clear round in the astro was quite big for her,” he said.
"She also won the reserve champion in the showjumping so for her to do that was quite a good thing.
“The six bar, for Anna to do it, that was a high level - 1.30 - so that was quite exciting for us.”
The Armidale School and PLC also took teams.
TAS student Dominique Holley won elementary dressage champion, Oliver Ledingham was reserve 105cm showjumping champion and reserve 13-year-old boy in the overall pointscore while Michael Paull finished as champion in the 17-year-old sporting and was named the reserve champion in the overall tally.
