Skipper Jay Porter together with Beau Prideaux, Graeme Porter and Ben Morthorpe got the lead early over the Nambucca side, made up of Chris Brownlie, Barry Redman, Paul Coulton (West Tamworth) and Gary Mitchell.
“I think that having played in finals before made a big difference,” winning skipper Jay said.
“I’ve been on winning teams, along with my father Graeme in 2007, 2008 and 2009 … and now we’ve taken the shield back again.
“It’s not the money but the prestige that is important – 42 years of bowling history.”
Nonetheless the winners purse contained $4000, a good way to cover weekend expenses.
The Nambucca Heads Bowling Club was full of good cheer as the remainder of the 112 bowlers from 19 different clubs relaxed and socialised at the tournament’s end.
Among them was Maurie Roberts, of Roberts Nambucca Heads Real Estate, and sponsor of the Triples, which was played out on Friday.
Club President Tony Stokes thanked everyone for their sporting efforts and fellow members for their organisational commitment.
“It’s been a great weekend – the Nambucca side played their hearts out and did themselves proud with their efforts,” Tony said.
