Manilla’s main drag is more abuzz than usual, presently, with rumours and innuendo about the town’s bid to host Triple J’s One Night Stand concert.
This week, the line-up was announced for the free concert which is aimed at bringing live music to regional Australian’s used to missing out.
The youth broadcaster also announced the gig would be held on Saturday, September 1st, which would pose a conundrum for Mandy Skewes who entered the application on the town’s behalf.

One of Ms Skewes’ sons is getting married on the first Saturday in September.
“It’s probably an omen,” she told The Leader.
“I think it’s a good omen.”
The winning location will be announced on-air on Thursday, while it would be a fillip for Manilla to snag the concert for 2018, it might make for a logistical logjam for Ms Skewes’ family.
“If we can't change the date, maybe we can change the reception venue, the Manilla show pavilion could be done-up,” she said.
Ms Skewes has been in the dark about progress on the application, but she was buoyed by the subtle hints dropped on-air by presenters who suggested the gig was going to location with a population less than 15,000 people and joked the performers would need Akubras and cowboy boots for the concert.
Ms Skewes said she mentioned “utes, swags and cowboys” in her submission.
“They’ve said they’re coming to a quite regional town, maybe we are on shortlist,” she said.
