Senior Sergeant Brett Davies did not appear in Tamworth Local Court for his case and was not required to enter a plea.
He’s accused of doing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice on the morning of June 24, last year, in West Tamworth.
Police allege he told a senior constable to change a report to prevent another officer from being charged with driving offences with the intent to pervert the course of justice.
A solicitor from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Group Six division in Sydney – the unit that prosecutes police officers – appeared via video link for the mention.
Police have been ordered to compile a brief of evidence into the case before it returns to court in July.
The officer was issued a future court attendance notice in April following an investigation by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s professional standards division.
The Leader understands the charge stems from an investigation relating to an incident in June, 2017, in Tamworth.
Senior Sergeant Davies is the cluster supervisor for the Peel highway patrol area covering Oxley, New England and what was the Barwon command.
NSW Police were approached for confirmation on the officer’s work status but are yet to respond.
