After a fourth place finish at the state titles in March, Ahoy is determined to claim a medal at the national event starting this Sunday.
“I eventually made it to the semis but unfortunately didn’t make it to the play-off for first and second, I came fourth,” he said.
“After that I did more training to become a better player.
“Even though I didn’t get anywhere in the state titles, I was still good enough to get selected for the NSW team.
Ahoy has been back training multiple times a week with his eyes on the prize.
“I have just been doing a lot of training for my boccia and a lot of mental training to convince myself to go further,” he said.
“I am just looking forward to going to nationals.
“I am hoping to make my family proud and my state proud and come away with a medal and being called Australia’s best BC1 player.
“[My family] are [proud] to see me achieve something I really enjoy – whether I get a medal or not – there are a lot of people in my family who are really proud regardless.
“Even to get a medal would be a bonus really.”
