Brett took over the coaching of the five-time grand finalists from Paul Martin this year and said there is still more growth in the side as they prepare for this Saturday’s game against Warialda.
“Right from the start of the season, I have been trying to bring a lot more plays and organisation into it,” he said.
“And increase their skill level, we do a lot of skills training as well as team-type training.
“I have inherited a pretty good team so I have to keep challenging them to get better.”
The Tigers beat Ashford 40-14 in their recent clash.
“The first-half wasn't brilliant. When they started completing their plays, things became a lot easier, particularly in attack,” Brett said.
“That's the big thing I am working on, completing their plays.
“Each of our games, even though we have had good wins, there have been periods where we have started not to complete plays and that showed.”
This Saturday they travel to Warialda to take on a Wombats side coming off a 20-nil loss.
“By all accounts they were very short last week so we can't take much on that loss I don't think,” Brett said.
“I think they will be very strong at home. My experience of Warialda teams, they are very competitive so I think they will be playing for the win the whole game.”
“I am suspecting they will be very well coached.”
Players Alyce Walsh, Lauren Acton, Vicki Youman, Camilla Clydesdale and Sophie Barraclough recently returned to the team from Group 19 representative duties with Walsh, Clydesdale and Youman turning out in the Greater Northern Tigers team.
In the men’s Uralla beat Ashford Roosters 26-18 in what captain-coach Josh Clark described as a game of two very different halves.
“The first-half was a pretty scrappy affair but after we had the break we went out and played some good footy and got the win,” he said.
“It was a great team performance in the second-half but the first-half was a bit scrappy.”
Clark is expecting this Saturday’s game against Warialda to be even tougher with the Wombats coming off a 32-30 loss to ladder leaders Tenterfield.
“We thought they would be the benchmark until they got beaten on the weekend [by Tenterfield] but I think they were short.
“They are definitely going to be tough, especially over there. We are going over there to win anyway, we are not really worried about how good they are, we are going there to beat them.”
