The Commonwealth Bank’s Guyra branch donated $10,000 to cancer charity CanAssist yesterday, to mark 100 years of employees’ charitable giving.

“It’s wonderful for CanAssist,” president Wendy Jackson said. “If we're fortunate enough to have more money in the bank, then we can help more people, or help someone who needs more.”
The charity provides financial assistance and practical support to country people in NSW affected by any type of cancer.

“All the money that we raise,” Ms Jackson said, "is spent to support local families and people with cancer, whether for trips to Sydney for medical treatment, food supplements, medications, or any other needs they might have.”
The Commonwealth Bank Guyra branch’s Naomi Davidson approached CanAssist, and helped them to submit the application form.
“We chose CanAssist as they help local families who are dealing with cancer maintain their everyday responsibilities,” bank manager Kerrie Cavanagh said.
"We thought it was important to help the Guyra community members who were coping with these challenges.”
Across Australia, more than 13,000 Commonwealth Bank employees donate a portion of their income to support local organisations that benefit youth well-being, access to education, and cancer research and awareness.
One thousand community organisations will receive a Centenary Grant worth $10,000 from the bank, which has donated $10 million to celebrate and recognise 100 years of employee giving.
