Members of the Country Women’s Association of NSW Annual Conference Committee recently met with staff from NNEGS to finalise arrangements for the event starting on Sunday, April 29 with an Ecumenical Service then continuing with a week long conference and associated activities.

This year the 96th Annual Conference in Armidale is hosted by the branches of the Northern Tablelands Group and is the biggest event on the CWA of NSW calendar. 

Members come together to debate and discuss motions proposed by branches throughout the state, relating to issues in their communities, thereby providing the opportunity to influence CWA policy and the ability to lobby for change.

At the 2017 Conference on the Central Coast members discussed issues from weather radar coverage for western NSW and the establishment of a cardiac bus to service remote areas of NSW, to tighter restrictions around foreign land ownership and coal seam gas mining effects on farmers, just to mention a few.

“The Conference Committee has received 100 per cent support from Armidale Regional Council. They have bent over backwards to help us and offered CWA complete cooperation,” Committee chair Thea Zwiebel said

“CWA is anticipating over 800 members to converge on Armidale to enjoy the region’s rich history and scenic landscape.

“We would like to invite the public to our Open House display on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May at the Armidale Town Hall to celebrate all things CWA with lots of craft and cooking to purchase as well as enjoy our famous tea and coffee served with home-baked scones, cream and jam,” she said.

The Country Women’s Association of NSW is the largest women’s organisation in Australia. It was established in 1922 to encourage women in rural and remote areas to have a voice and to promote friendship and support.
