The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) Guyra Volunteer Support Group will hold its charity golf day at Guyra Golf Club this Saturday, April 8.
All funds raised will support the WRHS, which attends accident sites, treats and transfers patients to hospital, and helps to find missing people. The helicopters, sponsored by the NSW Government and Westpac Banking Corporation, fly nearly 2,000 missions a year.

Organisers promise the event will be one of the year’s most fun sporting days. Men, women, and mixed doubles will play a three person Ambrose – a fast-paced, social match where three people play as a team – on 18 holes around the par 72 grass-greened course. The match tees off at 10.30am, and costs $25, including lunch.
Guyra Bowling Club’s Betty Bourke is organising the day, and welcomes all.
“You don’t have to be a member to play,” she said. “The event is open to all: men and women, members and non-members.” Golfers and social players are sure to have fun – and hackers, too!
“There are always good prizes,” she said, “and the volunteers provide a fantastic lunch.”
Last year the event was held in August but has been moved to April, while a two-person Ambrose for the WRHS will be held in November.
“All the money raised at the golf day stays in the New England and North West,” said Kim Newling, support group co-ordinator of the New England and North-West division of the WRHS. “It ensures no one ever has to pay to use the service.’
Ms Newman was delighted and thankful for the efforts of all concerned.
“It is great to see small clubs and towns supporting the WRHS like this,” she said. “We want to thank the community, local businesses, and Guyra Bowling and Golf Clubs for their support. Also the local support group volunteers who work so hard for us.”
