Armidale Regional Council is one of just eight cherry-picked by Create NSW to host a Live and Local Festival.
Mayor Simon Murray said a thriving live music scene is an essential ingredient for a vibrant city.
"This event is a fantastic opportunity to bring local musicians and businesses together, as well as showcase the wonderful talent of our home grown performers,” he said.
“The Armidale region has a diverse and talented array of musicians that offer outstanding live entertainment value for the whole family.”
Retailers, hotels, empty spaces and outdoor stages will be transformed into funky music venues to host musicians.
Free family entertainment will be on offer on Saturday April 4pm to 8pm.
Playing one after the other at venues within walking distance of each other means punters can make their way across the city to a new beat.
Cr Murray said the amount of musicians that applied to take part is a testament to Armidale’s rivalry of a Melbourne underground arts scene.
“The Armidale Region has a number of singer songwriters and composers as well as instrument makers,” he said.
“This is a great initiative where Council can offer local artists a platform to be heard and earn an income from their passion.”
On the stages will be everything from rock, to classical, indie, country, folk and more.
