Four rounds of golf over two weekends and several downpours later, the final seeds in the Regional Australia Bank Club Championships drove, chipped and putted their way around the course on Sunday afternoon for the honour of being named club champion for 2018.

Finalists in Division 1 Ladies, Kay Nash, Chris Russell and Annie Waters would like to have reported that they had been hot on the heels of Amanda Carr till the end, but that scenario fell short of reality with Amanda delivering a crushing 23 stroke margin to take the title and putting her name on the cup for the 7th time.
None were more impressive in the four rounds than regular to the winner’s circle Tim Murray, who shot a great score of 10 Under Par off the stick for a 278 total. This led him to a 23 victory over of his closest rival, giving him his seventh consecutive A Grade Men’s Championship Kevin Dawson Memorial Cup and gaining him the infinite respect and admiration of his fellow golfers and club mates.
Although Leisa Meehan led the charge in the first three rounds of the Division 2 Ladies, Sue Davies played some solid golf during the last round and, despite carrying an injury, was able to snavel up the trophy, winning by a convincing 7 strokes.
There was some fervent competition in the B Grade Men’s, with Ian O’Callaghan looking good after two rounds only to lose his way a little during the third and fourth, leaving the door open for Brad Kramer and Lindsay Wittig to battle for the title.
Kramer held his own even after finding the bunker on his approach to the 18th. A crafty blast out and a solid putt averted a late change to the lead, leaving him two strokes clear of Wittig and his name of the 2018 trophy.
It was much the same story in Division 3 Ladies with Kaye McColl thinking she’d finally got the hang of golf, leading the field for the first two rounds.
Pat Moore though was having none of that, playing very steady, up-the-middle-of-the-fairway golf and no-nonsense putting closed the deal during the last round with one of her best days yet on the course.
Mitch Moore in C Grade Men’s had a bit of a shaky start but obviously had a good chat to himself after his first round about the basics of golf, successfully steadied the ship and brought home the bacon with an impressive 15 stroke lead to closest rival Peter Cumming.
Special mention should go to C Grade Nett winner Luke Uphill, who as a newcomer to golf and the Armidale Golf Club, turned in some handy scores during the championships and enough to lose 3 strokes from his 24 handicap.
Also worth a special mention are the Runners Up, or more aptly named Nett winners in Division 1 - Annie Waters, A Grade - Gary Emery; Division 2 - Leisa Meehan, B Grade - Garry Hamilton and Division 3 - Kaye McColl, C Grade - Luke Uphill.
