Renat and Hila Yusupov, renowned Uzbek-Australian musicians, will present an evening of popular classical cello and piano masterpieces at the Armidale Uniting Church, 114 Rusden Street, on Thursday April 12.

The concert will include Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1; Paganini's Variations on One String on a Theme from Rossini’s “Moses in Egypt”; the Meditation from Massenet’s “Thaïs”; and works by J.S. Bach, Saint-Saëns, and Monti.
The program will also include a unique collection of melodies from Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Israel, arranged for cello and piano. “These pieces have hardly ever been presented in Australia,” a spokesperson said, “and are expected to intrigue the listeners with their beauty, energy, and delight.”

Both studied at the Uzbek State Conservatory. Renat Yusupov worked as assistant principal cellist with both the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan and the St. Petersburg orchestra, Russia, as well as concertmaster of the State Conservatory between 1992 and 1999. Hila Yusupov was concertmaster at the Vocal and Opera departments of the Tashkent State Conservatory.
He migrated to Australia in 1999, and she came to Sydney in 2003. Both have since often performed as soloists with many orchestras and in concerts. Mrs Yusupov also works as a piano teacher and accompanist at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney.
“Although both have enormous experience in the world’s most prestigious venues,” a spokesperson said, “they are excited to be bringing this concert to smaller communities who do not often have the chance for such an experience."
The concert starts at 7.30pm, at the Armidale Uniting Church, 114 Rusden Street. Tickets cost $12-$27, and are available from www.trybooking.com or by calling 0417 498 502.
