Armidale police investigate after grassfires in Canambie Street and Butler Street

POLICE are investigating whether children were behind two suspicious grass fires that were sparked in Armidale.

Officers were called to a small fire in Canambie Street shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday after flames took hold of shrubs and grassland.

Crews from Fire and Rescue NSW also attended and extinguished the fire quickly.

Shortly beforehand, another fire was lit in a park off Butler Street, between 1.45pm and 2.10pm.

Firefighters were also deployed to douse the small fire.

Police said both fires are suspicious and are calling for anyone who might have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time to contact Armidale police on 6771 0699.
