Playing at A Day on the Green this year, singer and drummer Kram said the band comes from humble beginnings.
“Our first jam was on Janet’s parents farm, which is a rice farm a few kilometres north of Finley,” Kram said.
“Janet’s dad had to wheel out this giant John Deere header out of the header shed so we could set up inside.
“To end up becoming this massive band and rock starts or whatever – it’s a real trip for us.”
Growing up in Finley, Kram wanted to be an AFL player until a dedicated music teacher changed his mind.
“Our town is all about footy,” he said.
“The reason I ended up being a musician is because this music teacher Julie Croft came to Finley and she was an amazing musician from Sydney.
“When I had someone great to jam with – it really started to kick off, it lifted me and I ended up getting first in the state for music in my HSC.
“It just gave me such a lift of confidence.”
Moving to Melbourne after high school to study music, Kram moved in with Janet and Whitt.
Once in a share house, the three started to head out to grunge rock gigs.
And, they soon became as famous as the bands they once idolised.
Starting out as Spiderbaby, they were signed to a small record label in Melbourne.
They were called Spidersaurus for a few weeks, before landing at Spiderbait.
”I love doing this, it’s the best – just to spread supercharged positive energy to a whole audience,” Kram said.
Coming to Armidale in March, Kram said they can’t wait to play to a country audience.
“I’ve always really liked Armidale, I think it’s really cool,” he said.
“My partner and I would often go through the tablelands and we used to stop and stay in Armidale all the time because there’s some really great cafes there.
“I’m stoked the show is going to be there, I think the more big outdoor shows that can get out to country Australia the better because there’s so many people out there that want to see live music.”
Spiderbait will play alongside The Living End, Spiderbait, Veruca Salt, The Lemonheads, Tumbleweed and The Fauves at A Day on the Green.
The concert is on March 3.
