Just five minutes after Norths United scored the opening goal of the match – a brilliant strike by captain Jason Boundy from well outside the 18-yard box beat everyone to find the back of the net – OVA’s predicament worsened when Ryan Searl was given his marching orders for elbowing another player off the ball. Norths continued to press and search for a second goal but Mushies weren’t giving in.
With 42 minutes gone, Adam Watson received a pass, turned, shot and scored to make things level.
OVA’s clincher didn’t come until the 89th minute when Watson latched onto a ground cross from interchange player Will Menz.
OVA coach Tim Coates took time to congratulate Norths United on a cracking game.
“I thought North Armidale played really well,” Coates said.
“I think they were missing a few key players as well.
“They did a great job and had a few players that backed up from reserve grade, too.”
