Northern Inland Premier League: Watson boots a double to send OVA into the grand final | Photos, video

Norths United have one more chance to make the grand final after being downed by Oxley Vale Attunga in the opening semi on Saturday.

Just five minutes after Norths United scored the opening goal of the match – a brilliant strike by captain Jason Boundy from well outside the 18-yard box beat everyone to find the back of the net – OVA’s predicament worsened when Ryan Searl was given his marching orders for elbowing another player off the ball. Norths continued to press and search for a second goal but Mushies weren’t giving in.

With 42 minutes gone, Adam Watson received a pass, turned, shot and scored to make things level.

OVA’s clincher didn’t come until the 89th minute when Watson latched onto a ground cross from interchange player Will Menz.

OVA coach Tim Coates took time to congratulate Norths United on a cracking game.

“I thought North Armidale played really well,” Coates said.

“I think they were missing a few key players as well.

“They did a great job and had a few players that backed up from reserve grade, too.”
