Uralla Tigers are firing and ready to break the hoodoo which has seen them succumb to Kootingal-Moonbi in the grand final for two years running.
It will be the third time the two sides have clashed in the Group 4 second division league tag final with the Roosters snagging the trophy in 2015 and 2016.
The Tigers beat their opponents two weeks ago in a semi-final to earn the first spot in the decider which has given the side the belief to beat the Roosters this Saturday.
“We are all looking forward to the challenge,” Uralla coach Paul Martin said.
“They are a very well drilled and coached side so I think we will really have to be on top of our game to beat them but I think we can.
“It will be a good game and if we play to our potential it will be a very close game.”
Martin believes the key lies in his team’s ability hold on to the ball.
“We just have to minimise our errors,” he said.
“We made too many errors against them before and put too much pressure on ourselves.
“If we can do that we might have a bit more energy when we have got the ball.”
The Roosters thumped the Walcha league tag team 32-nil to qualify for the grand final, signifying their intentions.
While Uralla’s defence has been more than solid this season, they will have to step it up a notch again on Saturday.
“If you don't play well against them [Kootingal] they will just do what they did to Walcha and run up a cricket score on you,” Martin said.
“They can do that pretty easily if you're not on your game.”
Players absent from the grand final who helped get the Tigers there:
Nicole Tobin - Nic is our quiet achiever. Another one who is placed around the field proving to be a quality playmaker. She will miss the grand final this Saturday as she will be living it up in Europe!
Britt Youman - Now in her fourth year for the Uralla Tigers, Britt is a leading playmaker for the team. She has the ability to read the game and rarely misses a tag. She has a good right foot allowing her to kick for miles. Unfortunately, Britt was been forced into an early retirement this due to a knee injury.
