Foundations Care non-placement support services manager Demian Coates said himself and his coworkers decided to donate blood after reading about James Harrison – a man who has saved the lives of an estimated 2 million babies through blood donation.
“We were talking about it in the office and one of the case workers who’s just had a baby said the vaccination that’s made from his blood actually saved her baby,” he said.
“Later on that day one of my friends got a text message telling them their blood had just saved a life.
“We’re seeing if we can make it an organisational thing.”
Mr Coates said it was a team-bonding experience.
“All the staff are really loving – they’re in a job to care for people so it wasn’t hard to promote the idea of saving lives,” he said.
“I think everyone in our community is a lot like that.”
