When Dave Perryman first picked up a pair of scissors as a 14-year-old, you still paid for your haircut in pounds and shillings.
Fifty-six years on, Dave is calling it a day and has passed his business on to local barber Shane Northam.
“I haven’t had more than 10 days holiday in 56 years,” Dave said.
“So it's going to be an adjustment.”
Dave perfected his trade under Arthur Robins for 10 years before opening his own shop in the Mall Arcade.
Last Friday, 46 years on, he closed the doors for the final time. “The people are the best part and I’m really going to miss that,” he said.
Some of Dave’s clients have been with him from the start and he even cuts four generations of hair in the one family.
“It’s been good to me,” he said.
