A rejuvenated Armidale Rams are ready to make a charge back to their former glory after being recalled to Group 19 for season 2017.
The Rams joined Group 4 last season, and after losing a host of players in the pre-season only managed to pull off one victory in the top grade after a request for their only senior side to play reserve grade was denied, however an impressive U18 side went all the way to the grand final.
Committee member Phil Williams is banking on having another top drawer juniors squad next season, and so is the competition as a new look Group 19 have already begun preparations to also get back to their former glory with ten clubs nominating at last weeks AGM.
“We will definitely have three sides, a juniors, league tag and first grade, and are a definite possibility of four,” Williams said.
“Group 19 will have an U18 comp this year and we will have another really strong squad in a strong competition.”
“Everything is really positive at the club at the moment and we are all ready to move forward with pre-season starting next week.”
The club wants to bring rugby league back to the forefront of the Armidale sporting world, and after a Facebook group for past and present players was launched and went viral the committee has jumped on board and are riding the momentum into next year.

The Rams are not only starting pre-season early under captain coach Steve Coleman and President Terry Carson, but are also running a Sattelite Coaching Program for anyone interested in attending.
“They will be a coaching clinic with an array of coaches from outside Armidale that we have opened to the community,” Williams said.
“Dean Widders is running the first one on November 19, and we also have interest from Andrew Ryan, Nigel Vagana and Hayden Knowles.”
While the Rams had no choice but to return to Group 19 they can only see positives from the move so far and are looking forward to their return after requesting the move south only 12 months ago.
“There is a lot of benefits like bigger crowds at home games. Group 19 also have a strong committee in place with Richard Stallworthy as president and we think it is going to be a really strong competition again.”
The Rams will also introduce membership packages for 2017 with exclusive member benefits.
They will begin from $30.
