ICONIC Sydney Opera House has hosted some of the most famous names in music and now students from Ben Venue have torn down the house.
The Year Six choir students travelled to Sydney on Monday to perform in the Festival of Choral Music.
Music teacher Sally Spillane said the festival was a fantastic opportunity for the students to access a high quality repertoire.
“They’re singing these beautiful, beautiful songs, some of them that have been composed for the Opera House series,” she said.
“To be able to travel to Sydney and to perform in such a high quality concert, just to be able to hear that beautiful music and to hear that standard of instrumentalists inspires them.”
Held in the main concert hall of the Sydney Opera House, students have to audition in December the year before to be involved.
Since then they have been rehearsing in lunch times throughout the year.
Ms Spillane said that for many Ben Venue students this will be the first time they travel to Sydney.
“This is the best learning I believe that they can access and it’s a really positive experience,” she said.
“Just to be there and to perform in the best venue in Australia, it’s just really magical and the look on their faces is amazing.”
Students have learned both alto and soprano parts and have learned 12 songs to perform.
The choir will perform alongside more than 500 other state school students each night.
