POLICE have released the name of the 21-year-old University of New England student who was killed in a head-on collision near Uralla last week.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but Syed Ali and Jason Palmer had died in the accident.
The crash was just one of a slew of accidents that have occurred on country roads recently. The New England Highway has seen two crashes between Armidale and Tamworth in the last week alone.
On Sunday the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to an incident at Bendemeer following a multi-car accident. Two motorbike riders were taken to Tamworth Hospital.
Armidale Local Area Command Inspector Chris McKinnon has urged drivers to take extreme care on country roads.
“Drive to the conditions, within regulations and do not drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” he said.
“Be conscious of fatigue and the impacts that can have on your driving ability. Drivers should also take caution when overtaking.”
