The Walcha Mountain Festival was born out of a mountain bike event and this weekends’ festival offers keen cyclists three ways to push the pedals.
On Saturday the PKF Walcha Road Ride Challenge starts from the showground at 8.00am (registrations from 7.30) and after a challenging scenic 75 kilometre loop through Kentucky, Wollun and Walcha Road, the ride finishes at South Street, just near McHattan Park. The Walcha Farmers Market is also on in the park that Saturday along with the Billy Cart Derby where drivers career down South Street and finish opposite the park.
Now in its tenth year, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Mountain Bike Challenge will be held on Sunday at the Langford Homestead along with the Walcha Mountain Festival. The riders enter as a relay team or solo and the aim is to complete as many laps of the 10km course as possible in 6-hour period. There is also a family ride for those who wish to travel at an easier pace.
