The Walcha Westpac Rescue Helicopter teams challenge is one of my favourite races because every one is out there having fun, smiling and up for a chat as you ride past. I love the ride because it’s where my mountain bike career first started. Out of all the places I have raced all over Australia and the world, I still enjoy being back in Walcha in my home town with all my friends and the awesome atmosphere of the ride. The ride raises money for a great service which has helped many people in Walcha including my brother. I also have an advantage on this ride because I help set up the course and it goes though our property, so I can easily practice on the course and that always helps. The ride itself suits everybody because there is nothing technical, just the odd hill, but once you get to the top you have the reward of riding down. You can do the ride solo or, to make it easier, you can do it in a team of two or four. So you can do it with your family or friends and the ride is suitable for all rider abilities and ages.
