THE FREEDOM to choose was the topic of choice at the MY Future MY Choice Community Links Expo on Friday.
More than 35 businesses and support services were represented at the expo.
Kirinari Community Services business development manager Lorraine Legge said it was fantastic to have so many support services available for conversation under one roof and was excited about the changes the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) would bring to disability support.
“Under the NDIS there are so many more options available to people, before it wasn’t always financially viable for someone to make a choice about a group home or independent living options,” she said.
Respite, home care services and DVA, accommodation services and lifestyle support services are all offered by the group.
Kirinari Community Services is in the process of establishing a new home in Armidale and currently supports more than 50 people from across the New England region.
The group also provides work experience opportunities to youth.
“We offer work experience to youth to see what it is like to work in our industry and often we end up taking them on as employees if they’re good,” she said.
The expo will run until 2:30pm today at The Den at Armidale High School and there is a free sausage sizzle on offer.
