RIDERS from across Northern NSW descended on Armidale showground for the annual Area 3 showjumping championships over the weekend.
Hosted by Armidale Pony Club, the event attracted 60 riders from four zones. Competitors of all ages took part in the meet, from E grade through to A grade.
The day also saw riders selected to represent the area at Sydney Royal next year.
Armidale’s William Wood, Corindi’s Zoe Campbell, Inverell’s Claudia Neate and Warialda’s Ammie Cleal were all chosen to be part of the team.
Armidale Pony Club’s Rebecca Cameron said although the weather affected entry numbers, it failed to dampen the spirits of competitors. “The weather on Saturday meant we had a lot of scratchings but it picked up on Sunday so we were looking around 60 entries for the weekend which was nice,” she said.
“We were hoping for a few more and we did open entries up on the morning.
"Another cold, horrible Saturday but it was a really, really good weekend.”
There were plenty of local New England riders but winnings were shared amongst the area, which stretches from Lightning Ridge to Lismore, down to Walcha and up to Tenterfield.
"It was good it wasn't just our zone coming out winning, we had a lot of others,” Cameron said.
