TWO pensioners are $200,000 richer this week after winning first-prize on a $5 ticket in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1039.
The retired couple, who have decided to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at Carr’s Newsagency and said they couldn’t believe it when Lotto contacted them last week.
“This is wonderful news. I’ve played forever and I always knew there was a first prize in every draw but I just never thought I’d win it.
The win is very timely. My wife and I are pensioners and our bank balance is getting low so it will be wonderful to boost it by $200,000,” the winner said.
Owner of Carr’s Newsagency, Rod Carr, said it’s not the first big-win to come out of the shop, since they took-over management 17 years ago.
“We’ve had about half-a-dozen good wins but this is the most recent one.
The biggest win we’ve had is about $826,000 on lotto, probably 10 years ago,” he said.
After witnessing all the jackpots over the years, Mr Carr says it’s easy to dream about what he would do if he won “the big one”.
“If I had won $200,000 I would give some to the family, I’d take a trip and perhaps get a new car.
I’d probably give $50 to my wife,” he joked.
The win has encouraged local residents like Matt Graham to grab a ticket for Saturday’s Lotto which is worth up to $4 million.
“If I won, I would go on a very long holiday with my family,” he said.
