JUNIOR cyclists from around the region continued to dominate on the track when they took on the NSW junior state road championships last weekend.
David Cook, Sam King, Tom Simmonds, Katherine Hosking and Isabella Hosking competed in a time trial, road race and criterium at the event in Wagga Wagga.
In the time trial Cook placed 26th in the under 17s category with Simmonds in 34th and King just behind him in 35th.
Katherine Hosking came in 11th in the under 17 category with sister Isabella claiming 12th in under 15s.
The 60 kilometre road race saw some tough competition in the under 17 men’s division with Cook landing 12th place and Simmons and King managing 33rd and 34th place.
Katherine Hosking sat at the front of the pack for much of her race before a break saw her leap through with Canberra’s Lauren Robards to hit the lead.
The race came down to the final stages with a sprint finish declaring Robards the winner of the race by 0.01 seconds and Hosking declared the best in NSW.
Isabelle was just one second behind the winner in the under 15 women’s 30 kilometre race and placed eighth.
This was a fantastic result for all our junior competitors, most of whom have not competed at this level before
- Rob Tindale
Armidale cycling club’s president Rob Tindale said it was outstanding to have local riders competing with the best in the state and is excited Hosking will ride at national level.
“This was a fantastic result for all our junior competitors, most of whom have not competed at this level before. They can all be proud of their efforts and the club is extremely proud of their achievements,” he said.
“They carry on a great tradition of high class junior riders from the club who have gone on to achieve great success in cycling and we wish them all the best going forward, especially at the moment to Katherine in the upcoming National titles.”
Katherine backed up her performance at the state championships by also competing in the City2Surf run in Sydney and then competed for NSW Combined Catholic Colleges in the state netball carnival in Penrith.
