
New England Community College is running an information day at the Armidale Plaza as part of their Adult Learners’ Week celebrations.
The college offers courses on a wide range to topics and experts will be available to answer visitors’ questions.
New England Community College course coordinator Leonie Taylor said it was a good chance for the college to connect with the community.
“We are not as well known as TAFE, but we are out there and are available and accessible,” she said.
“There are so many things that go on here so we just thought that we would highlight a few of them.”
The community college started life as the Guyra Adult Learning Association in 1981 and now, under its new name, also offer courses in Uralla, Walcha, Armidale, Dorrigo, and Glen Innes.
The college is a nationally approved Registered Training Provider and partners with other community colleges across the state.

The college believes that learning should be a community activity and not an isolated event.
Ms Taylor said they would being a lot of information down to Armidale for their learners’ week stall and would also sign people up to their notification list.
“We do short courses, and we do longer courses like your ages care and you certificates,” she said.
“We also do your leisure courses like cheese making, knife sharpening, and cake decoration. so we’re pretty diversified.”
The college also has the flexibility to offer courses on demand for groups and can cater to a particular interest in needed.
They also offer fundamental learning courses in adult literacy.
“Say, for example, someone comes to us who likes working outside, well we can show them the courses that might suit them,” Ms Taylor said.
“We just want to promote it a bit because ok, you do have a TAFE in the town, but you also have a community college.”
Adult Learners’ Week runs from September 1 to 8 and will be celebrated across Australia, with hundreds of events and activities designed to promote the benefits of learning.
The New England Community College will have a stall in the Armidale Plaza near Target on September 8.
