THE AUSTRALIAN Hockeyroos suffered a poor start to their Rio Olympics campaign with losses to rivals Great Britain and USA.
The side faced Great Britain first up with Armidale’s Georgie Morgan providing some spark in the match.
Her first attempt at goal was denied when it hit the top post but three minutes into the second half she nailed one from a penalty corner going in.
Morgan’s goal was the side’s only point in the 2-1 loss.
Their second pool match against the USA had the same result.
After some solid attacking raids early on in the match, Australia lost two players through penalties and the USA capitalised.
The losses leave the side in danger of missing out on the quarter-finals.
The side has three more games against India, Argentina and Japan in the pool matches, which they need to win to make the finals.
The match against India commences at 12AM, Thursday local time.
