ARMIDALE/Uralla Meals on Wheels is calling for new recruits to help delivery hot meals and warm company to the community.
Coordinator Jo Heslin said substantial growth and the cold weather had added to the demand for volunteers.
“We are short of drivers so particularly for the next few months we will be looking for people to delivery meals to our clients,” Ms Heslin said.
“People often go away in winter or are taken out with illness so although we do have quite a few volunteers, we need a few extra hands.
“It’s very easy to become a volunteer with people just needing to have a drivers license and fill out a form.”
The branch serves more than 3000 meals a month to more than 150 people.
“Obviously obviously volunteers are giving back to community but also providing our clients with company because sometimes it is the only visit they receive everyday,” Ms Heslin added.
“If you talk to any of our volunteers, they will tell you about the sense of community and it’s such a heartwarming act.”
