St Mary’s Primary School is continuing to be a force in the local schools’ chess competitions.
Last term the school hosted an Interschool Chess Challenge run by Bevan Cloustan from the Sydney Academy of Chess.
Students from St Mary’s placed from first to sixth in the competition with Harrison Ross the winner on the day.
In this competition students competed against boys and girls from Sandon Public School, Guyra Central and Armidale High School.
Last week St Mary’s sent three teams from the school chess club to compete in the local interschool competition organised by the NSW Junior Chess League and hosted by Armidale City Public School. Students from Armidale City, Sandon, TAS, St John’s and Glen Innes competed with 16 teams involved.
St Mary’s had a very successful day winning both Pool A and Pool B of the competition and coming second in Pool A.
The two winning teams will now play each other with the final winners going on to play the winner of another country region.
