An electronic noticeboard displaying community events and apartment living could also be introduced in the East Mall in a bid to revitalise the district.

The plan aims to reduce red tape to encourage retail and city centre living, upgrade infrastructure and  de-clutter the Mall.

The shade sails outside the Tattersalls Hotel will probably be taken down.

Armidale Regional Council administrator Ian Tiley hoped the plan would drive growth.
