Last Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of East Armidale was DK’s third win on the trot and has them surging up the McDonald’s Northern Inland Premier League northern conference ladder.
The win had coach Evan Quaife searching for superlatives to describe his side’s performance.
“It’s probably the best performance since I’ve been coach,” he said. “We just bossed them the whole game.
“I don’t want to sound cocky, but it could have been 10-nil.
“We hit the cross bar at least three times and the posts a couple of times.”
DK are yet to concede a goal during their winning streak and have only let in seven all season, giving them the best defensive record in the northern conference.
“Three clean sheets in a row, you can’t ask for much more as a coach,” Quaife said.
“If the other team can’t score, they can’t win.” Quaife also had another reason to be proud on Saturday, with son Josh scoring a hat-trick.
“They were his first goals for the year, he was close to getting a talking to by the coach,” Quaife joked.
“He had a great game.”
The younger Quaife scored the first three DK goals, two via headers in the first half and another via his right boot 10 minutes after the break.
Chris Daly slotted home a free kick shortly after and Sam Constance triggered wild celebrations with a goal of his own to give DK a five-goal buffer.
“We really put it together,” Quaife said.
“We were hungry, we won everything in defence and in the midfield.
“I’d love to bottle up that enthusiasm and let it out every time we play. We’re starting to get a bit of consistency and we are banging in some goals.”
DK joins the rest of the competition in taking a break for the long weekend before returning for their biggest test of the season against southern conference leaders Oxley Vale Attunga in a fortnight.
“We have to keep building on how we’ve been going,” Quaife said.
“If we can keep playing with that intensity and desire we will be hard to beat.”
