The east Armidale community garden is in the last stages of construction and when finished, founders hope it will be a place for fresh food produce and learning.
Postdoctoral research fellow at the University of New England Kate Wright founded the project in conjunction with Steve Widders.
Work for the dole crews are currently landscaping the ground.
Once completed, the garden will grow fruit and vegetables which will be available through a co-op, as well as bush food and medicinal plants.
“We want to have the place to promote healthy food and connection to the land,” Ms Wright said.
The garden is still seeking any building or garden donations before completion-and any gardeners are welcome to help out. Please contact Kate Wright at eastarmidalecommunitygarden@gmail.com or like the Armidale community garden Facebook page.
