TUMBARUMBA captain-coach Aaron Sweeney has been suspended for a year by the Group Nine board. The controversial Tumbarumba leader received the penalty at a hearing in Wagga on Tuesday night. Sweeney pleaded guilty to a charge under section 48 of the Group Nine constitution and was subsequently banned for 12 months. It comes after he was sin binned against Junee in the round eight clash at Laurie Daley Oval last Sunday week, May 31. He was then allegedly involved in further incidents after leaving the field. Sweeney has until 5pm on Thursday to lodge an appeal with the CRL. Under the terms of the suspension, Sweeney is unable to active take any part in rugby league. More information to come.
