But one of the tests could shed light on that.
While one of them is a work colleague of a person who tested positive to the coronavirus on Tuesday, the third person - who had contact with the other two - recently moved to Armidale from Sydney.
The work colleague's test result came back negative on Wednesday, while the other result is not known yet.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said the test result of the recent arrival would be known later on Wednesday, or on Thursday.
"It might solve the riddle," Mr Marshall said.
"That third person is not an Armidale local, it's someone who moved very recently from Sydney.
"So if both of those two individuals do test positive, and the results come back today or tomorrow, then it's highly likely that they will ... know exactly where that person contracated the coronavirus.
"That would be very comforting to the community," he said.
When the second case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Armidale on Tuesday, Mr Marshall described it as the most worrying yet in his electorate, as it was the first case where the person had not been overseas, and the source for contracting the virus was not known.
He said police and health authorities were still investigating the source, while the individual was completely isolated at home after being released from hospital.
"They are being regularly contacted by health authorities and NSW Police, but obviously they are strictly isolating themselves in quarantine," Mr Marshall said.
The latest case brought the total number of cases within the Northern Tablelands electorate to eight.
The first coronavirus cases in the region were an Inverell couple who returned home from a cruise and were diagnosed last month, followed by an Emmaville couple who had also been on a cruise.
There was another case in Inverell after a group of travellers returned home. Others from the group were also tested.
The seventh case was a Uralla resident who had returned from an overseas trip.
