Minister for Early Education Sarah Mitchell said the funding aimed to provide opportunities to educators to further their education on a trip to Adventure Land preschool on Monday.

“The thinking behind it is to provide support for preschools to improve professional development  for their staff, and they can choose where it is needed, “ Ms Mitchell said.

The non-profit preschool will receive $2000.

Ms Mitchell said the grant scheme wasn’t addressing a gap in the early education industry.

“It’s a program we have had going for a while. We think it’s important to invest in educators because they do an amazing job in looking after the next generation," she said.

Director Alesha Thomas said the preschool was thrilled to received the funding grant.

“We put a proposal in for three of our educators to upgrade their identify and respond to young children at risk… and we also proposed we would be doing nature play,” Ms Thomas said. 

“We will reflect on our current practices and what can be improved, and it will be offered to all our educators.

"Receiving this money is going to be really helpful for us this year.”

Adventureland Preschool has four educators working everyday who will able to further their professional development.

Six other preschools in the Northern Tablelands were successful in securing the professional development grant.

These included Guyra, Glen Innes, Inverell and Moree.

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said the funding is vital as the population continues to grow. 

“it is really important that parents in our area have a lot of confidence that the educators in our preschools are getting the professional development, keeping up with the latest trends and research,” Mr Marshall said.

“It’s really helpful.”
