On Thursday evening, Adriana Hegney McCenaghan who has organised the alternative proposal, spoke to a group of residents, supporters, and a couple of councillors, outside the group’s shop in the mall.
The main features of the alt.proposal included removing the stage near the Faulkner Street corner, and removing the bends in the road in East Mall. The plan for the East Mall also included 45-degree angle parking along the northern side of the street.

The plan for the Central Mall included new awnings and landscaping.
Cr Jon Galletly and Cr Margaret O’Connor both listened and spoke to the gathered crowd, and while it was clear no decision would be made on the fate of the mall at this month’s council meeting, Cr Galletly said he was willing to guarantee no road would be going through the mall.
The new proposal was created as an alternative to the design by Armidale Regional Council’s consultants, King & Campbell, which had sparked a lot of debate, and saw hundreds attend a rally on Saturday, February 3.
