Competition between players heated up last Saturday, along with the temperature as a field of 22 ladies and 106 men made their way around the course for a chance to win the Armidale Golf Cellarbration Cellars Summer Cup.

Although the ladies had a small field, the scores reflected a close competition as Helen Dawson and Kaye McColl brought home the bacon with a tidy score of 46 stableford points.

Their playing partners, Anna Barnier and Toni Clifton were in hot pursuit but the McColl/Dawson team pulled away towards the final holes with some steady putting to win the day.
Ladies captain and regular on the winner’s podium, Kay Nash and her partner Carmel Berryman came in a close second with 44 points just beating the Barnier/Clifton partnership by one point.
Special mention goes to ball comp winners Patricia Moore, Gaye Johnson, Mandy Richardson and Virginia Vale.
There was quite a bit of speculation at the end of the day among the men as six teams handed in score cards of 48 Stableford point, requiring a concerted countback effort on the part of the course officials to find the winners.
Club stalwart Jim Sheedy with a handicap of 6 and Garry Hamilton on 16 were named outright winners, closely followed by Chris Pearce (4) and Nevyl Fuller (16). Third place went to Robert Butler (20) and Ian O’Callaghan (12).
Scores were impressive enough that 28 balls were distributed to worthy winners. Special mention goes to closest the pin winners Matthew Meehan, Christian Nexo, Anthony Hillard, Trevor Murray and Gary Emery.
