Torn between the New England and NAMOI joint organisations, Uralla Shire Council has flirted back to a letter from Armidale Regional Council.
Uralla mayor Michael Pearce said the council decided to respond to the letter unanimously.
“This gesture will help mend the legacy issues left by Fit for the Future merger considerations, and to set a positive and collaborative path forward for both councils,” Cr Pearce said.
State government legislation means councils will be able to voluntarily work together in joint organisations.
The benefits are that councils can now share resources, tender for projects collaboratively and better lobby for funding opportunities.
Uralla Shire Council will make a decision on February 13 at an extraordinary meeting.
A joint organisation is not a merger.
But, winning Uralla over may be harder than Armidale Regional Council expects.
The town that escaped forced amalgamation is already a member of the NAMOI JO.
That JO is made up of Uralla, Walcha, Tamworth, Liverpool Plains, Gunnedah and Gwydir.
Councils wishing to be a part of a JO must make a decision by February 28.
Uralla mayor Michael Pearce said the town is keen to work with all regional councils on strategies that benefit everyone.
“Uralla Shire Council is keen to work with all councils at a regional level for the benefit of our community,” Cr Pearce said.
