Severe heat and a UV index surging to extreme has sparked high fire dangers for the entire New England and North West region.
Armidale will hit a top of 32 degrees on Thursday with rain forecast for Friday and the weekend.
But the wet weather won’t provide relief from the heat with temperatures predicted to break into the 30s on Friday and Saturday.
February 12, 2017 still holds the title for the hottest day on record at 37.6 degrees while last Friday was warmest day so far this month at 29 degrees.
Further north in Guyra, Thursday is likely to be hot and mostly sunny with overnight temperatures falling to between 11 and 15 with daytime temperatures reaching 29 degrees.
Rain is predicted for the weekend with humidity reaching 80 per cent on Sunday.
Guyra’s hottest day on record was also February this year when the mercury recorded 35.1 degrees at the local hospital.
Glen Innes and Tenterfield will sizzle through 30 degree heat on Thursday and Friday with rain predicted over the weekend.
Inverell and Moree will cop the brunt of this week’s hot spell with temperatures edging towards the 40s on Thursday and into the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a top of 38 for the Western Slopes and Plains on Thursday with north to northeasterly winds travelling 15 to 25 km/h in the morning becoming light in the early afternoon.
Moree’s hottest day on record was earlier this year when the mercury hit a scorching 47 degrees.
Tamworth should reach its hottest day of the month on Thursday with the bureau predicting a top of 38 degrees.
And don’t forget to slip, slop, slap as the UV Index is predicted to reach 14 (extreme).
