Dumaresq Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer fire service that protects locals from the threat of bushfires and provides emergency support throughout Armidale and the New England region. With more than 65 members, they are the region’s largest brigade, and are continuing to grow.
Runners-up this month were New England Junior Nomads AFL and Martins Gully Pony Club, who each receive $1000 to support their respective programs.
The #GreaterArmidale grant will allow the brigade to purchase vital equipment to increase their fire-fighting capacity during emergency operations, and to protect and serve the community for many years to come.
Members of the Armidale community are encouraged to vote each month for the organisation they would like to see given a much needed financial boost. This can be done online at greater.com.au/greaterarmidale, or by dropping into the Greater Bank’s Armidale branch.
The #GreaterArmidale community funding program has now provided $75,000 to local charity groups in New England, and will continue to provide $5,000 per month to other worthy groups, as voted by the general public.
Voting for the next grant round opened this week. Pathfinder’s Nanyapura Boxing Program, 337SQN Australian Air Force Cadets and Breakaways Hockey Club are each vying to win a share of the $5000 grant on offer. Voting closes at 5pm, on Wednesday December 27.
Greater Bank Armidale’s Acting Branch Manager, Shannan Feneley, said they are still seeking nominations from community groups to be considered for future funding rounds.
“This program has made a real impact on our community. While on the surface the grants may seem small, they funding is making a tangible difference to the recipient groups,” Shannan said.
“If you are involved in, or know of a community organisation or charity that is doing great things in Armidale, nominate them to be part of our monthly voting round.”
Nominating is easy, and can be done via social media – using the hashtag #GreaterArmidale, simply post on Greater Bank’s Facebook Wall, or post to Instagram or Twitter, telling us in 100 words or less how the organisation is helping to improve lives of locals.

Each month, Greater Bank will select three organisations that the community will vote on to receive the grant.
